The rooftop is a wonderful, shared backyard space for all residents to enjoy. It has lush gardens to wander around, lawns to play on, dining areas for events, quiet spots for contemplation and stunning views over the surrounding area.
We love pets in Wurru wurru biik. Pets to pat and throw balls for are one of the delights of the shared rooftop garden! Dogs and cats, supervised by their owners, are welcome to explore and enjoy the rooftop gardens. Make sure they are not a nuisance to others and safe with kids.
Please take your pet downstairs so they can go to the toilet before coming up to the rooftop.
The northern lawns are not a toileting area. If pets use these lawns as a toilet, kids and other residents will be at risk of illness and mess.
When accidents happen, please clean up after your pet and pour lots of cold water over the area (use the hose or a watering can). This dilutes the acids in pee and the germs and mess in poo so our residents (especially kids) don’t get sick or dirty.
Want a BBQ? We don’t allow gas BBQs on balconies (keeping emissions and fire risk low), so there are two electric BBQs you can use at the northern end of the rooftop. One is above Yambook (north-west railway side) and one is above Ngawan (north-east). These are next to covered dining areas.
We have an informal system for booking the BBQ and dining spaces — just let everyone know via rooftop-spaces discord channel with plenty of notice (a week or so) when you want to use BBQs or dining spaces.
Clean up the BBQ and bench area after use — it should be shining and silver! To clean the BBQ plate, first warm the plate up and pour a little water over to help loosen stuck-on food. The plate can then be cleaned with soapy water and a scrubber or sponge.
Please check whether the grease collection bucket underneath the BBQ is full. Otherwise, the grease pours out onto our paving stones and we don’t want that.
You can use the four covered areas on the rooftop to gather with others. There’s no formal process for booking them as the rooftop is a shared backyard for all of us (see above).
If you are having an event on the rooftop and wish to ‘reserve’ an area for use, please let your neighbours know the details on the rooftop-spaces discord channel.
Each of these have different sliding door configurations to help shade and protect the space from the weather. (Because of planning laws, we couldn’t have them completely enclosed.)
